Physical Education Philosophy
Physical education is a sequential education program based on physical activities in an active, supportive, caring, and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful. Physical education provides opportunities for all students to achieve the knowledge, skills, and values that will develop and strengthen their sense of well being and enhance the quality of their life through activity.
Physical education is not just about health and fitness. It is about life skills, including responsibility, respect, decision making, feelings of self worth, and a personal value system, all of which act as spring boards in the development of individual lifestyles. Such development is essential for each student to become an informed, healthy, productive, and responsible citizen.
Our mission here at Hastings UFSD is to encourage all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. - Standard 1 - Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
- Standard 2 - Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
- Stardard 3 - Participates regularly in physical activity.
- Standard 4 - Acheives and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
- Standard 5 - Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
- Standard 6 - Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
New York State Learning Standards for Health and Physical Education
- Learning Standard #1:
Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health. - Learning Standard #2:
Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment. - Learning Standard #3:
