Social Studies

The overall purpose of the Social Studies Program is to prepare students for life by helping them understand the past, the modern tools of social analysis, and the major features of their environment. Within our classes, we stress content and skills and try to formulate class rules and procedures that foster self-respect and respect for others as well as a sense of responsibility.
 
Students are required to take four full units of Social Studies in high school.  All students take World History I and World History II in heterogeneous classes. In grade 11, students may choose different courses, but selecting a particular class in grade 11 does not, in any way, restrict their choices in their senior year. The fourth year requirement entails a semester of Economics and a semester of Participation in Government.
